I've mentioned before how important my cousins are to me and how they are the coolest human beings on the planet. It's been an exciting time of life because my oldest cousins are getting engaged. Collin is my third cousin to get married in four years and I am just as excited for his and Alison’s wedding!
Many, many, many, many years ago, my mom's aunts and uncles started the tradition of throwing a couples bridal shower for each of their nieces and nephews after they became engaged. My mom and her siblings decided to carry on the tradition and they began planning Collin and Alison's party. Since my family knows I have an undying love for stationery and invitations, they asked me to design the invite. But first, here’s a little background on Collin and Alison.
Collin and Alison met at University of Dayton where they both attended college. After they started dating, Collin brought her to a family holiday for the first time, and I think we all knew that she was The One. Alison is such a fun, easygoing girl who also has the best taste in books, so of course I was excited to have her as an addition to our family. After much anticipation, Collin proposed in early 2013. Now, we are just a few months away from their big day and I can't wait!
The couples shower my aunts and uncles and parents are hosting is actually this weekend, so it’s the perfect time to debut their cute invitation!
Their wedding colors are coral and gray with a naturey-flowery themed invitation, so I thought it'd be the fun to illustrate a flower for the art. (I have to confess, if there is a piece of paper near me and a pen in my hand, I doodle. You will probably find some of these same flowers in the margins of all of my college notebooks…oops.) My aunt and uncle also thought it'd be a good idea to have some type of direction card since they are hosting at their newly-built beautiful house that is not on the maps just yet.
I loved having the opportunity to get back into designing invites and hope to be doing more of it in the future. I've got big plans for 2014 when it comes to design and freelance…you may even see more invitations being debuted on the blog throughout the year. Stay tuned!
